Live transcoding pricing is calculated on a sliding scale, based on the number of transcoding hours used each month. As usage accrues, customers automatically move down the pricing scale.
How are Live Transcoding hours calculated?
Both input* and output streams are used to determine hours used. For example, a one hour event encoded in 4 renditions (2 RTMP + 2 HLS) counts as 5 hours of encoding (1 input + 4 output).
*Input hours start accruing with the start of a job, whether or not video is being streamed to Zencoder.
Transmuxed renditions are billed at ¼ of the price. Transmuxing repackages streams into another container format for segmented playback, without re-encoding the file.
Things to Know
HD input and output renditions (resolutions equal to or greater than 1280x720) are billed at a rate of 2x. For example, a one hour HD input stream encoded into one HD output stream will be charged as 4 hours of encoding.
Transmux only and audio only (audio to audio or video to audio) jobs are billed at a rate of 1/4x.
Files archived from live streams are billed as transfer at 1/4x file transcoding rates.
VOD files transcoded from archived Live events are billed at file transcoding rates.
Each input stream may have a maximum duration of up to 18 hours. The service is not available for 24x7 live streaming.
